COVID-19 numbers bump higher

The number of COVID-19 cases has increased in Houghton, Baraga, and Keweenaw Counties, but there is still a lot of good news to be found in Thursday’s update. A reminder that reported cases will now reflect the resumption of indoor dining that started on February 1st. The effect from high school sports, if there will be any, has not shown up yet.

The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department recorded 26 new cases in the three-county area. The biggest increase was found in Keweenaw County. It went from zero new cases to eight confirmed instances. One death was logged in Houghton County.

That still represents a low amount of COVID-19 activity, something confirmed by the extraordinary amount of recoveries noted in the report. Houghton County alone had 112, with Keweenaw and Baraga Counties adding another 19 for a three-county total of 131.

TOTAL: 46 more positives, 13 more probable positives, 176 more recoveries and 2 deaths
BARAGA COUNTY: 4 more positives and 5 more recoveries
GOGEBIC COUNTY: 16 more positives, 6 more probable positives, 33 more recoveries and 1 death
HOUGHTON COUNTY: 14 more positives, 6 more probable positives, 112 more recoveries and 1 death
KEWEENAW COUNTY: 8 more positives and 14 more recoveries
ONTONAGON COUNTY: 4 more positives, 2 more probable positives and 10 more recoveries

The numbers cover Tuesday, the ninth, through Thursday. The full report can be found here.
