COVID-19 activity at pandemic highs

Houghton County blew through 300 COVID-19 cases in the seven-day period ending Wednesday. That is easily the most recorded at any time since March 2020. Keweenaw County has also seen a surge in cases, now at 32. Baraga has been relatively level for a while, recording 49 in the most recent time period.

The amount of testing is stratospheric, over 1,200 being performed in Houghton County alone thanks to recent acquisitions by the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department. A Panther assay testing machine was purchased during the summer. Over 25 percent of all diagnostics performed came back positive in the area’s most populous county.

The full table is below. What is happening in the Keweenaw is consistent with trends statewide.
