County Board hears from Dominion Election Systems

The leadership of the Houghton County Board of Commissioners will stay the same this year. At last night’s meeting, Al Koskela was reelected as chair, and Tom Tikkanen as vice-chair.

Board members had a chance to talk with a representative from Dominion Election Systems, which provides voting equipment for Houghton County, and many other Michigan counties. Kurt Knowles said rumors that foreign countries had been able to hack into election computers could not possibly have been true…

The actual voting equipment are never ever hooked up to the internet. The computer Jennifer uses in her office is a standalone, dedicated to just elections and that computer is never, ever, EVER connected to the internet.

The board elected to keep its standard meeting schedule on the second Tuesday following the first Monday of each month at 5:00. Next month, though, will be an exception – the meeting will begin at 3:00.
