Copper Shores Receives Over $1.25 Mil To Form Relations With Local Farmers For Meals On Wheels

Copper Shores Community Health Foundation (previously known as Portage Health Foundation) has received a grant for over $1.25 million ($1,289,510) for the Copper Shores Meals on Wheels programming.

The funding will support and improve the resilience of local supply chains, which will allow Copper Shores to offer assistance tailored to the challenges faced in the Copper Country and foods that are unique to the area.

The grant will allow organizations to form partnerships within a 400-mile radius, meaning there is potential to work with over 250 regionally based farmers and producers. Copper Shores will set up a long-term relationship with local vendors and put resources and money into the local economy.

The local farmers, growers, jam producers, bakers, buyers and more will have consistent business and Copper Shores will have high quality locally grown food. With this relationship, the programming created by the grant will be able to continue past the initial funding.

With the influx of local foods, Copper Shores is planning to improve its facilities and kitchen equipment to process goods more efficiently.
