Copper Shores Plans to Expand the Bridges Getting Ahead Program into Baraga County in August

Copper Shores Community Health Foundation announces plans to expand the Bridges program into Barga County. Copper Shores Community Health Foundation earlier this month announced it will begin offering its introductory Bridges program course, Getting Ahead, in August. The Weekly class will focus on teaching skills in ways to become more stable financially by decreasing debt and more self-sufficient.

The Getting Ahead program allows people who struggle within 200 percent of the poverty threshold a safe space to learn about becoming financially stable. Copper Shores Bridges has already shown success with three classes graduating from the program in Houghton, and several applicants from around the Copper Country to join.

Bridges’ expansion into Baraga County signifies a step in developing the skills necessary for communities and individuals to create stability on their own. Bridges Director Michael Steber says that this move feels like a natural progression of the program to help reach more people in the region a little closer to home.

Individuals, called investigators, in the program, can take advantage of the program’s ability to also help with transportation and child care during class times. Additionally, the program gratefully partners with the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community for assistance with facilities, transportation, and childcare over the program’s 16-week period.

Individuals interested in taking charge of their finances to create a more stable lifestyle will need to complete an application for the program by July 19th. Interviews will take place late next month.

The Bridges program in Baraga County will take place weekly on Wednesday evenings.
