Copper Shores Outreach and Education offers a free training program to address suicide prevention. Next week Copper Shores Outreach and Education will host a free QPR training session at the Portage Lake District Library.
QPR or questions Persuade, and refer, asks residents in the copper country to look out for signs of suicidal ideation and mental health challenges such as depression and anxiety.
Stepping in during a crisis, such as choking or a heart attack, QPR takes specific steps to question someone who is considering suicide. Persuade them to seek resources in the community. And finally, refer the individual to a mental healthcare professional. Copper Shores does ask those interested in attending the QPR training to register for the event.
Organizers plan to have refreshments available during the program and will need a head count to reserve enough space. Those interested in learning more about Question Persuade and Refer training with Copper Shores Outreach and Education next Thursday at 6 pm. Register for the program by contacting Lisa Simpson at lsimpson@coppershores.org or call 1 (906) 523-5920 ext. 2062
The QPR training program is organized in partnership with the Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds.
