Naloxone saves lives. Commonly known as Narcan, Naloxone has been used within addiction health communities to respond to opioid overdoses. Copper Shores Outreach and Education understands that spreading knowledge about addiction and tools used by professionals in the case of emergencies can help communities take action. Next week Copper Shores plans to host the first of a series of programs that will train individuals how to administer naloxone to a patient during an opioid overdose, signs to look for in the case of an overdose, help the community understand its role in harm reduction in the overall opioid public health crisis. Copper Shores prevention Coordinator Lisa Simpson said that now more than ever individuals are encouraged to prepare themselves with the training and confidence they need to respond quickly in an overdose situation. The first training session on Tuesday will take place at the Little Gem Community Theater in Lake Linden. A second and third training opportunities will occur in Houghton and Lanse on the 19th and 23rd respectively. Copper Shores does recommend those interested in taking part in training register ahead of time.
