Bridges Out of Poverty with the Copper Shores Community Health Foundation will move into Ontonagon County after the start of 2025. Several graduates have already completed the program.
Months ago we started in Baraga for our first getting ahead class there in Baraga. And then hopefully we can get started in Ontonagon because we realize it’s a long way for people to take a class and dedicate that much time. – Michael Steber, Bridges Program Director, Copper Shores Bridges
While learning about the factors that lead to generational or systemic poverty, now Facilitator Angela Coon sets personal goals for herself and her family’s future. Since graduating from the program she has begun helping others find their stable ground.
I think with my life experience I can relate to them and the challenges that they come across. It’s hard to get financially stable in life and it’s nice to sit back and take a look at your life and what you can do to better it financially. We also have different people come in every week which introduces us to different resources in the community that a lot of people aren’t even aware of. – Angela Coon, Facilitator, Copper Shores Bridges
On December 5th Copper Shores Bridges Out of Poverty will host a community workshop in Ontonagon. Attendees will learn a little about what the Bridges Out of Poverty Program shares with participants, and the key components of the program’s featured course Getting Ahead.
We want to entice people who are community leaders in Ontonagon County or people who want to help their community become more stable. Eventually, we’ll get a getting ahead class in Ontonagon in 2025, hopefully for folks who are struggling at the poverty level. But this workshop is for any community leaders or anybody in the community who cares and wants to make a difference. – Michael Steber, Bridges Program Director, Copper Shores Bridges
Those interested in registering for the December workshop at Cane Court in Ontonagon will need to register by next Friday.
