Copper Shores and UPHS – Portage help parents not get overwhelmed by resources

Becoming a parent comes with its challenges, including feeding your child. Soon Copper Shores Community Health Foundation and UPHS – Portage medical experts will share resources for starting kids on a healthy life journey. The building blocks infant feeding fundamentals Workshop will dive into topics like posture, developing fine motor skills, and recommendations for breaking down whole foods for children starting to eat solid food.

One of the first things that comes to my mind is the overload of information, where you can just search things and then not know what’s appropriate or what’s credible or just know where to start. I think we also forget too as fully grown adults, we have all the skills, we know how to chew and swallow. Those are skills that we learn at a young age and so I think it can be overwhelming knowing where to start or if your kid is choking or are they gagging. And how to set them up where they can, know how to safely spit out food, says Copper Shores Dietitian Meghan Jaszczak. There are techniques and tips that we can instill and kind of introduce at this young age that are going to help the kids learn the skills that they need to be successful eaters and hopefully ease the stress on the parents in doing so.

Registration for the building blocks presentation with Copper Shores and up portage will end tomorrow. Space for the program is limited. Those interested in joining the program, or have questions about the presentation should contact Meghan Jaszczak for more information. Those interested in registering for the free presentation can find more information here.
