Copper Shores 2024 Volunteer Emergency Services Grants Support Equipment Purchases with 13 Departments in the Western Upper Peninsula

Copper Shores knows how much the local community relies on dedicated first responders to keep the area safe. Recently the foundation wrapped up accepting applications for the 2024 volunteer emergency services grant program. The funding will support various requests from fire departments and first responders in Baraga Houghton and Keweenaw counties. Funding from the foundation was awarded to 13 different departments from throughout the region, awarding between 2000 and 5000 dollars for each. Some of the grants will support new equipment purchases for firefighter safety. While another group will purchase a thermal imaging camera. L’Anse Fire Department – Thermal imaging cameras ($3,569)

Aura Fire Department – Handheld radios ($4,000)

Chassell Volunteer Fire and Rescue – Turnout gear, washer and dryer ($5,000)

Laurium Fire Department – Personal protective equipment ($2,000)

Quincy-Franklin-Hancock Township Fire Department – Personal protective helmets ($5,000)

Ripley Volunteer Fire Department – SCBA tank upgrade, personal protective equipment ($5,000)

Stanton Township Volunteer Fire Department, Precinct 1 – Equipment storage ($2,673.95)

Toivola Volunteer Fire Department, Stanton Township Precinct 2 – Replacement SCBA Bottles ($5,000)

Ahmeek Village Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department – Personal protective equipment ($2,000)

Allouez Township Vol. Fire Department – Generator and lighting ($5,000) 

Keweenaw County Search & Rescue – Rescue e-bike ($4,173.70)

Sherman Township Fire & Rescue – Fire suppression equipment ($5,000)

McMillan Township Fire Department – SCBA units ($5,000)
