Copper Queen Ball supports restoration projects inside the Calumet Theatre

It takes a lot of support to operate and maintain the crown jewel of Calumet. The Calumet Theatre’s dedicated board of directors works throughout the year to keep track of restoration projects, book acts for the stage, and coordinate volunteers for events and programs. In the last couple of years, the board has worked hard to raise funds supporting the boiler replacement, and engineering assessments for the structure.

And we are also currently in the process of preparing our steam boiler that failed a few years ago. So hopefully we’ll be able to get steam heat. In addition, we are also working on our projector room. And within the next week or two here, we will be able to see the old 1930s projectors that were originally in that room. – Reece White, Technical Director, The Calumet Theatre

The theater receives private donations that support operations and maintenance, as well as raises money through fundraising events with the community. The Copper Queen Ball gets its name from the Iron Fish Distillery’s Copper Queen Whiskey. Last year the company approached Calumet Theatre looking for a way to support its projects.

The Copper Queen Ball, which was branded recently last year, is our annual fundraising event. It will be put towards restoration projects at the theatre as we are transitioning into a new board of directors. We are now focusing on the restoration of the theatre and the ballroom here. And it was actually just in time for our gala last year. And so they actually sent up some of their distillers up here when they were especially we sold a lot of it. – Reece White, Technical Director, The Calumet Theatre

This weekend’s Copper Queen ball will include dinner catered by the bonfire in Houghton, live music, and a silent and live auction. Tickets for the fundraising event cost 100 dollars. The event will begin at 5 pm. With music and dancing after 8 pm. Those interested in learning more about the Calumet Theatre or want to find out how to get involved as a volunteer or member can find more information here.
