Copper Island Academy construction nearly complete

Five months from start to finish. That’s all it will take for Moyle Construction to wrap up work on the Copper Island Academy building being erected near the Houghton County Memorial Airport. Project Manager Andrew Kemper says the job will be done by the middle of next week, in plenty of time for the start of the school’s inaugural academic year.

Kemper says you don’t see this kind of timeline very often anymore.

As far as I am aware of there are no loose ends that are going to be outstanding when we wrap up construction middle of next week, which I think is pretty unheard of these days. To be able to complete a building of that size and that magnitude, including all the engineering and permitting that’s required, inside of five months.

Kemper says the school was the second largest project Moyle has been tackling recently, the other being the expansion at Calumet Electronics.

The next big-ticket job is an extended stay hotel that is set to go up on Razorback Drive in Houghton between Goodwill and the Rock House Grill and Tavern. Kemper says that should be finished in 2022.
