FishingBooker says that Copper Harbor is one of the eight best places in America to ice fish. It joins Midwest magnets like Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin, Brainerd, Minnesota, and Devils Lake in North Dakota, among other national sites.
The honor won’t be a surprise to area residents, but Keweenaw Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Brad Barnett says that ice fishing ranks behind snowmobiling and skiing as a winter tourism driver. He believes there is a great opportunity for guides to help grow the industry.
FishingBooker says that the mix of opportunities on both a Great Lake and inland bodies of water nearby like Fanny Hooe provides variety not found in many locations. “Trout, Northern Pike, Walleye, as well as various species of Panfish” plus “Coho and Chinook Salmon, Whitefish, Herring, and Smelt” are some of the catches available.

The Keweenaw Peninsula’s Copper Harbor has been ranked as a top ice fishing destination in the U.S. by a digital platform that specializes in booking fishing trips.
In a news release Thursday, FishingBooker ranked Copper Harbor in its “eight best ice fishing destinations” in the country. According to the rankings:
“Situated on the north shore of Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula, in the heart of Lake Superior, Copper Harbor is an ice fishing paradise. The cold winters ensure there is enough ice on both the inland lakes as well as Lake Superior, making the fishing varied and interesting.”
The ranking also praised the Keweenaw’s abundant snowfall and variety of additional winter activities like skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling.
FishingBooker is the world’s largest platform for connecting anglers and fishing guides, with over 30,000 fishing trips available in more than 2,000 destinations worldwide. The full list of destinations can be found here: https://fishingbooker.com/blog/ice-fishing-destinations.
