Copper Country Humane Society warns of scam

In a Facebook post Wednesday, the Copper Country Humane Society warned businesses that an individual is attempting a scam in the area. They did not post the identity of the man, but said he is known to them, and frequently uses their food pantry. The organization provides free pet food to people who are temporarily short on cash.

The Humane Society says that those utilizing the service usually need help only temporarily, but the man in question regularly asks for dog food from the shelter. They have recently refused to help, fearing that he is taking advantage of them.

The man is going to area stores saying he is collecting pet food on the pantry’s behalf. CCHS says they will only ask for donations through their official social media pages, and that they do not solicit in person.
