Copper Country Great Start Collaborative restocks the baby closet with donations from the community

The Copper Country Great Start Collaborative works with families to make sure kids have support during the early stages of development. Keweenaw Family Resource Center Executive Director Iola Brubaker says the baby closest has become a great resource for families of the Copper Country to access basic items that get used each day and present financial challenges for young parents.

For several years CCGSC has organized an annual diaper drive to help provide essential items to families in need. The collection in 2023 supported 150 families in the Keweenaw Peninsula utilizing the Copper Country Great Start Collaborative Baby Closet. The closet helped share items like more than 800 packages of diapers and wipes, 33 baby gates for homes and a car seat, and more than 136 bags of various clothing items.

During the CCGSC Baby Closet Diaper Drive, individuals can drop off donated items such as diapers of all sizes, clothes sizes 5 to 7, and wipes to several drop box locations. Those interested in providing monetary support for the drive should contact Brubaker with the Keweenaw Family Resource Center.
