Copper Country Firefighters convening in Twin Lakes

For the first time, Twin Lakes is hosting the Copper Country Firemen’s Association tournament when the event returns on June 26th. Chief John Reynolds says he expects around 30 departments to take part in the festivities from Houghton, Baraga, Ontonagon, and Keweenaw Counties.

Organizers have gotten creative given the new venue. The tournament and barbecue will be held at Krupps Resort, says Reynolds.

Krupps Resort does a wonderful job in our community in as far as they accommodate all the seasons with the hunting and the snowmobiling and the ATVs in the spring and fall.

There are no hydrants at the private property. Water will need to be pulled from lakes on the grounds of the resort. The parade is tentatively scheduled to go down M-26, meaning the highway will need to be closed entirely along the route. That is still pending approval. Rounding out the night is the Firefighters Ball.

Reynolds says hosting provides a great opportunity to spotlight his department’s needs. There are 18 volunteers this year, representing a larger force than normal. Reynolds says they were able to pull in some men who work in Twin Lakes and surrounding Elm River Township, even though they aren’t residents.
