Copper Country Angel Mission Announces Details for the 2024 Backpack Program

Glass half full, there’s still another half left of summer.

Even though the school year won’t start for a few more weeks, the Copper Country Angel Mission already has the region’s students in mind. Each year the Angel Mission organizes an annual backpack fundraiser to gather school supplies for the Copper Country’s students in need. The range of supplies the organization accepts at this time of the year includes spiral notebooks, loose paper packs, pencils, subject dividers, small markers, glue sticks, rounded-end scissors, scientific calculators, folders, erasers, crayon packs, colored pencils, glue, regular scissors, geometry sets, composition notebooks, trapper keepers, large markers, pens, pencil pouches, rulers, and water bottles.

Last year the organization sent 136 backpacks filled with school supplies home with kids worth an estimated 13,500 dollars. The organization states that over the years the program has reached many students and families in the Copper Country. Each year the program often provides the tools necessary to a student’s academic development and success in the classroom while lifting a financial burden on families. Ahead of the start of the 2024 -25 school year, the Copper Country Angel mission will begin accepting donations from people in the area at several drop-off locations for items. Or through monetary donations that CCAM says they will accept at the Calumet location.

See the message below from the Copper Country Angel Mission regarding the 2024 Backpack program.

Angel Mission would like to provide many more backpacks to more students in the local area, as the need is great. Monetary donations are needed and can be sent to the Angel Mission at 433 Fifth Street in Calumet or supplies can be dropped off at the store during open hours (Wednesday through Saturday from 11a-2p).  Supplies can also be donated in local collection boxes in the following businesses: Allouez – Dollar General; Mohawk – Bethany Lutheran; Calumet – Faith Lutheran; Houghton – WalMart and Portage Lake United Church and AutoPro Glass and tire; Copper Harbor – Shepherd of the Sea; Eagle Harbor – Community Building; Lake Linden – Loading Zone and Dollar General.

Angel Mission thanks many local businesses in the area who provide supplies at reduced cost, as well as food for the volunteers who assist with the program during pickup which takes place a week before school starts.

Supplies that are required are extensive. The list includes, but is not limited to: spiral notebooks, loose paper packs, pencils, subject dividers, small markers, glue sticks, rounded end scissors, scientific calculators, folders, erasers, crayon packs, colored pencils, glue, regular scissors, geometry sets, composition notebooks, trapper keepers, large markers, pens, pencil pouches, rulers, and water bottles.

Your kindness will shine in making sure students have their own supplies and everything they need to learn. Not only would your kindness be helping children, but you would also help struggling parents breathe a sigh of relief.

If you would like to register your child for a backpack for the coming school year, please call the Angel Mission at 906-729-6789 for an application or for more information, or check the website, ccangelmission.org. The program runs from July 24, 2024 to August 21, 2024.
