Connect with the Community at Kestner Park for the 906 Families Suicide Prevention Picnic

The local Communities that Care Coalition are hosting their sixth annual Families of 906 Suicide Prevention Picnic. Suicide is a difficult conversation to talk about, even among those someone is close with. Each year the coalition holds the event to help connect people in the community who may feel out of sorts, or that there is no one to listen. By connecting people the picnic and walk hopes to improve the state of mental health in the Keweenaw Peninsula, and shed light on a difficult topic.

“…because whether you’re a grieving family member or friend. Or even a person that has those feelings knowing that there is a whole community behind them, I feel, offers so much more comfort.” – Callisto Cortez, Dial Help Communities that Care Coordinator

The Families of 906 suicide picnic starts at 11am on Saturday at Kestner Park. This year the walk along the bridge will accompany the picnic. As will live music, and games. Stop by the suicide prevention picnic, to get to know others in the community, and enjoy a day, with new friends and family.
