Complaints surface over Pinery Lakes Ski Trail

The Baraga Convention and Visitors Bureau is reminding residents that the Pinery Lakes Trail is for nordic skiing only. Complaints have cropped up from users and the volunteer staff that maintains the path that hikers, snowshoers, and dog walkers are increasingly using the space. Pinery Lakes is the only groomed cross country path in the entire county.

CVB Executive Director Barbara McEwen reminds people that there are other nearby facilities for hiking activities.

The hiking trail by Falls River. We have the volunteer field up by high–the L’Anse school has a hiking trail. The L’Anse Township Park has a couple of hiking trails up there and their parking lot is even plowed for hiking.

She is worried that foot holes and other divots in the trails could end up causing injury to the skiers.
