City of Hancock Prepares for Key Ingredients Ahead of Canal Run

Canal Run weekend has finally come to Hancock. And with it comes time for key ingredients. The traditional street fair celebrating Hancock’s small business culture and local musicians always takes place Friday before the Canal Run. Over the years Key Ingredients has included several delicious food options, and sweet sounds while strolling along Quincy Street. Last year the city was able to shut down traffic along Quincy Street, and we plan to do the same this year. Hancock DDA coordinator says that the event has become a fun part of summer for residents and visitors alike ahead of the race.

We believe in local businesses and supporting those local businesses here in the city of Hancock. And we feel that our residents do. They love, for instance, Nisu Bakery and Cafe. They just celebrated their first anniversary here in downtown Hancock. And we just love having them here. Gino’s is one of our favorite restaurants. We’ve got Nutini’s as well. They’ll be participating in Friday evening’s key ingredients. 5th and Elm will also be out with pizza. We feel like we’ve also got a really good corner on Great Pizza here in the city of Hancock. – Todd Gast, DDA Coordinator, City of Hancock

Key Ingredients comes a great time for Canal Run’s participants. Organizers for both events work together to ensure Canal Run has space for last-minute registration and bib pick-up at Quincy Green. Canal Run Race Director Angela Luskin says that the food is also great because it’s important to have the fuel for the following day.

Hundreds of racers are planning to take part in anywhere from a two-mile distance up to a half marathon. It’s really important to fuel and hydrate our bodies appropriately. So making sure we are not dehydrated. We go through this week with lots of good hydration and then also the proper fuel. So we talk a lot about that carb loading but making sure we’re focusing on fueling our body with the right foods before Saturday. –  Angela Luskin, Race Director, Canal Run

The city of Hancock will begin shutting down Quincy Street at 5:30 pm on Friday. Gast asks motorists to please make sure to move their vehicles before the police department begins placing road barriers. Canal Run bib pick-up will take place from the Quincy Green.
