Chassell Celebrates a Berry Sweet Community

Another weekend wraps up in the Copper Country, and another Chassell strawberry festival goes in the book. Over the weekend many visitors parked and walked to Centennial Park on Friday and Saturday for the area’s annual strawberry festival. Friday’s fun started with the old-fashioned cake walk, craft, and artisans in the vendor’s location, delicious food at the fish boil, and a sweet treat with strawberry shortcake. As the evening waned, the community gathered under the park pavilion for queen candidate introductions and the strawberry auction. In 2024 the strawberry queen title was awarded to Nora Keranen, and Shayla Elmblad was named first attendant. Miss Congeniality, as voted on by the candidates, was awarded to Ralyn Mattila. Each candidate joined the community the following day during the parade. With Keranen, Elmblad, and Mattila, followed by the remaining candidates, as well as Chassell Citizen of the Year Tim Viola, and Youth Citizen of the Year Mason Loukus. After the parade, where kids filled bags with candy, families enjoyed even more treats with strawberry shortcakes and other activities in the park. Those interested in viewing the results of the parade float competition can find details here.
