Changes to the Iron Mountain Processing Center Postponed Until 2025 by the United States Postal Service

Changes to the Iron Mountain Processing Facility have been put on pause until 2025. Following repeated pressure by Michigan legislators, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy announced a committed pause to implementing changes at the Iron Mountain Processing facility and similar facilities until after January 1st, 2025. A bi-partisan letter addressed earlier this month directly sent to the postmaster called on the United States Postal Service to sop facility and transportation changes until a network plan can be studied to ensure changes will not harm mail delivery services. Michigan Senator Gary Peters said that the Iron Mountain processing and distribution center plays a vital role in the Upper Peninsula for mail delivery, and any changes made to the facility’s procedures or policies should be properly examined. He included that he has concerns with some of the changes particularly related to local transportation trips that will impact Michigan residents. Postmaster General DeJoy says that the postal service remains committed to delivering mail to residents and will inform the Postal Regulatory Commission before changes are implemented after January 1st, 2025.
