CCISD CTE Celebrates Student Joining Great Lakes Sound and Vibration in the Fall for Work Based Learning

CCISD Career and Technical Education announces a significant program milestone after a student signs a letter of intent with Great Lakes Sound and Vibration. Recently home-school student Baron Colbert signed a nonbinding letter of intent to join Great Lakes Sound and Vibration as a second-year CTE Work Based Learning student.

The letter of intent marks a promising step in Colbert’s education and professional journey creating opportunities for him to gain invaluable hands-on knowledge through the mentorship of industry experts. Work-Based Learning program with CCISD CTE offers students practical, real-world experiences in their field of study. During the next school year, Colbert will be able to work with GLSV four out of five days per week during typical CTE class time, while reporting to the CTE Mechatronics instructor once a week. A key difference between typical CTE programs and WBL programs includes direct hands-on education while in a professional setting for on-the-job training. Whereas CTE’s normal programs act much in the same way as a typical classroom.

Colbert expressed excitement for the next school year and the opportunity to work with Great Lakes Sound and Vibration. GLSV CEO Steve Mattson shared similar sentiments adding that the collaboration between the company and CTE’s WBL programs will foster the growth of young talent. The Work Based Learning program has seen an increase in students and companies interested in working together over the years with CTE also working with Erico Electric and Calumet Electronics in the past, and several others.
