Canal View – Houghton County sets visitation procedures

Nursing home visits are allowable again, but it won’t be the wild west. Canal View of Houghton County wants to ensure safety as family members return to the facility. Visitations are capped at two people and will only happen in patient rooms in select circumstances where health has them bedridden. The rest will occur in a designated area and will be time limited.

Keweenaw Report has reached out to the facility to clarify if multiple residents can receive visitors at the same time. We have not heard back yet on that issue. If it is no, once you include time for cleaning in between appointments, that would curtail how many guests are able to see family. That would be especially acute for weekday times that tend to be most popular for visits and weekends when the majority of people are not tied up with work obligations.

The full release is below.

Canal View – Houghton County is committed to safely reopening for visitors. While there have been many news’ stories reporting that nursing homes are open for visitation, we would like to take this opportunity to share the requirements outlined by MDHHS that all nursing homes have been instructed to follow.

All visits must be pre-scheduled and supervised; visitors will be screened prior to admittance and receive a COVID test prior to entry and adhere to PPE requirements. Visitations are only permitted in resident rooms in certain instances, and will mostly be in a designated area and time limited. The number of visitors per scheduled visit is limited to two persons or few at any given time.

Please call 483-2163 to schedule a visit. We appreciate your patience as we work diligently to get everyone in while also adhering to the requirements set forth by MDHHS.
