Canal View Awarded 5 Stars Rating

There are not enough words to describe what Canal View does the communities of Houghton County. The building and staff work as an assisted living and long-term care facility, providing an invaluable service to families in the area. The Center of Medicare and Medicaid Services awarded Canal View a 5 star rating last week, the highest rating a assisted care facility in the state of Michigan can earn. And Canal View is honored to have received such recognition, especially given the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Canal View’s Administrator, Kim Salmi, says that this award has come with a lot of hard work and sacrifice from her staff. But they have risen to the challenge to provide the best care for their residents.

For us to earn the 5 star designation during the pandemic is profound. I think its pretty significant to earn that in the midst of everything that has happened in the last year and a half. We really try to maintain a sense of home and normalcy, and our staff have been really dedicated towards that. I just want to sincerely thank our staff for showing up everyday, I know it hasn’t always been fun during the past year and a half. I know that there’s been a lot of challenges, but thank you to our family, staff and residents for your understanding. Truly they deserve this honor just as much as the facility. – Kim Salmi, Administrator

Health care workers have endured a number of challenges during the past year, and Canal View is striving to maintain their excellent care. Please continue to show patience and kindness with health-care workers, as they are still dealing with the aftershocks of the pandemic and the rise in Delta variant cases. The recent labor shortage has also significantly affected the health care industry. And Canal View, along with other facilities across the state, are doing everything they can to retain the quality of life that residents need.
