Canal Run partnering with Little Brothers

Canal Run is teaming up with Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly for their 40th anniversary. The venerable charity will be the recipient of any excess proceeds generated by the race this summer. Last year, the Canal Run committee switched models to benefit only one organization at a time. Omega House was awarded $5,000 dollars.

Little Brothers Executive Director Cathy Kass-Aten says, ““We have so many things planned throughout this year to celebrate our history, and this event is a perfect addition to that. Having the Canal Run choose to partner with us is exciting and humbling for us.”

UP Health System’s Angela Luskin says the committee organizing Canal Run already has an extensive list of possible future charities to donate to, but it is open to hearing more suggestions.

We had quite a few ideas for this year and we simply do it as a vote. We keep all of those names for the next year, so each year we plan to select a different organization. But if anybody is interested, absolutely reach out to us and let us know. We’ll see what we can do.

The Canal Run is scheduled for Saturday, July 16th. Registration is open. There will once again be seven events taking place between 7:15 and 10:30 AM, including the half marathon, 10 mile walk, 10-mile run, five-mile run, and more. The course begins in Calumet Township, following M-203 until it reaches downtown Hancock. Volunteers will be needed again and there is a sign-up form available for that here.
