Canal Run Gives Back will Support the Copper Country Humane Society in 2024

For nearly fifty years Canal Run has promoted residents and copper country visitors lacing up their shoes and outside. For several years the event has worked with local non–profit organizations to award funds raised through registration fees, and sponsorships to support community action. This year Canal Run Gives Back will support the Copper Country Humane Society and their furry friends.

So some of the past recipients of the Canal Run Gives Back program have been the Omega House, Little Brothers, and Friends of the Elderly. These are all really important organizations in our community and the Canal Run can help by not only giving, you know, a large sum of money to each of these organizations every year, but also to help build awareness and, you know, bring those important organizations to the forefront of our community. So, you know, dual purpose and it just gives us great joy to be able to give back every year. – Angela Luskin, Community Health Coordinator, UPHS – Portage

CCHS Board of Directors Vice President Kerri Sleeman says that throughout the year the shelter will house hundreds of animals. Many of whom are adopted into happy homes. She says that the organization benefits from working with several groups on collaborative events that support the humane society’s need to fund medical expenses and everyday care and fulfillment.

So the shelter is pretty full right now. We’d love to see people if they’re considering adding a pet to their family. Now is the time to do it. You can see our available pets on our website and then you can also stop by during any of our open hours and walk a dog that you’re interested in. If you’re looking at a cat, we do want people to sign up in advance to be able to go into the cat room. We like to keep those numbers low so that it doesn’t stress the cats out too much. – Kerri Sleeman, Vice President, Copper Country Humane Society Board of Directors
