From 1975 to 2025 the Canal Run has kept the Copper Country running along the Portage Canal in the Keweenaw Peninsula. This year marks the UPHS-Portage Canal Run’s fiftieth race.
Race Director Angela Luskin says organizers are thrilled to celebrate this special anniversary and bring the community together to foster the spirit of health wellness and camaraderie. This year’s event will occur on July 19th in Hancock. The Canal Run involves many in the community from the young and old to disabled racers who take part in various race distances. The 50th canal run will include a competitive half marathon, a 5-mile run and walk, and the 10-mile Bob Olson Memorial run and walk. The event also has 2 million race options and will have a Kid’s Dash to ensure the youngest in the Copper Country can join the fun.
