Calumet Village Council beefs up Planning Commission ranks

At Tuesday evening’s Calumet Village Council meeting, the group tackled two major orders of business. Pete Hahn and Chris Green were selected to join the Planning Commission, although neither has formally accepted as of yet. Green has long played a role in revitalization efforts in the village. He has served on the Calumet Historic District Commission and was a major part in the Bring Back Calumet grant proposal that was accepted by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.

Village Manager Caleb Katz says the council began discussions on purchasing a new piece of equipment for the Department of Public Works. It will help clear snow piles, allowing them to remain available throughout the whole season.

It’d be used to keep our snow dumps open a bit longer without us having to pay a rental fee to someone else to come do it.

Katz says that from a budgetary standpoint the light snow so far this year has been a blessing, but the village is ready to welcome some fresh powder and the visitors it will bring.
