Calumet Theatre hosting grand reopening

The Calumet Theatre will be open for public events again Saturday. Staff is planning a grand reopening with guests allowed in at noon. The lights go down at 1:00 for a screening of It’s A Wonderful Life. Admission into the movie is free and snacks and refreshments will be sold for $1.00 each.

Board President Dan Jamison says showing movies is a low risk way to bring people back to the theatre.

The movies are kind of the best way to do it. If it’s really snowy and stuff, we don’t lose an arm and a leg on artist fees.

He says the screen was just repaired last week, the system has been tested, and everything is a go. The Jimmy Stewart classic has become synonymous with Christmas time. Its inspirational nature has turned a box office dud at the time of its release in 1946 into an enduring classic. It is still shown by NBC each holiday season. Stewart’s George Bailey character is saved by a guardian angel who shows him how different life would be if he had never been born.

The next concert scheduled at the venue coincides with the Copper Dog sled race in early March.
