The Calumet Theatre will host a special screening of Brewster’s Millions Friday night, immediately following an announcement about the organization’s annual fundraiser. Jacob Mihelich from the Friends of the Calumet Theatre says this year’s raffle is a format that has never been tried before.
The theatre held its grand reopening earlier this month with a screening of It’s A Wonderful Life. Board President Dan Jamison says that January through April tends to be the theatre’s slow season and movies are an excellent way to put on community events at low risk.
Brewster’s Millions is a 1985 film based on the novel by popular turn of the century author and playwright George Barr McCutcheon. The plot of the movie revolves around a character played by Richard Pryor. Montgomery Brewster is a minor league baseball player tasked with spending $30 million in just thirty days without letting anyone know what he is up to. If he can do it, then he stands to inherit ten times that fortune. John Candy also headlines the cast.
