Rob Tarvis was elevated from the Calumet Village Council’s number two position to president at Tuesday’s meeting following Brian Abramson’s departure last week. He has been working closely with manager Amber Goodman on the budget, which was the primary focus of last night’s session.
Goodman says Ordinance 157 was also discussed. It would allow the council to appoint the village clerk, and potentially hire someone who lives outside of Calumet. It was repealed following concerns that a citizen petition was misplaced. In the weeks since, the original paperwork was never produced and only a measure determining how treasurer will be selected has made it to a ballot for the May special election. Goodman says the result of that petition will determine the council’s next move regarding the clerk.
A special meeting has been scheduled for Monday, the 28th, to address the budget. A public hearing will occur before the council begins final deliberations over the document. The village’s fiscal year ends at the end of the month.
