Dan Weingarten from the Michigan Department of Transportation says this year is a good one to be vigilant when planning road trips throughout the region. Over $121 million has been budgeted for construction projects in the Upper Peninsula. Expect to see orange barrels popping up in Houghton County next week.
Culvert repairs replacing temporary fixes following the 2018 Father’s Day Flood will happen over the course of several months on M-26 between Dollar Bay and Ripley, and on US 41 between Houghton and Chassell. Both projects will bring the roads down to one lane and utilize temporary traffic lights. Weingarten says it is imperative that motorists always obey the signals, even during off hours when there are fewer vehicles.
Work began near Three Lakes in Baraga County to repave several miles of US-41. That is more extensive in nature and will include traffic shifts, in addition to lane closures. There is no start date yet for the Townsend Drive project on Tech’s campus, but it should begin next month.
