Brigitte Morin Name Michigan Tech 2023 Diversity Award Winner

Michigan Tech announces the university’s 2023 Diversity Award winner. Brigitte Morin, an associate professor of biological sciences, has been named tech’s latest of the Michigan Technological University Diversity Award. Each year the university recognizes a member of its faculty who uses their leadership to contribute to more diverse and inclusive classrooms and research spaces. Morin graduated from Michigan Tech in 2006, earning a bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences with a secondary education teaching certificate. Following graduation, she taught high school science in Illinois while working to earn a master’s degree in biology from Northern Illinois University.

After earning her master’s degree Morin returned to Michigan Tech as a lecturer in the MLS program. Morin says that cultivating spaces where her students feel supported and valued has allowed them to use their skills to take on new challenges and grow as successful students. Morin played a major role in the coordination of the Biological Sciences Department’s Project Biodiversify. She has also been instrumental in facilitating Safe Place training for MTU faculty and has been the faculty advisor for Keweenaw Pride since 2016.
