Bridgefest Just Under a Month Away

We are just under a month away from one of Houghton’s biggest events.

Bridgefest’s parade is incredibly popular. The board wants to stress that all parade entrants need to register, and all cars and floats need to be decorated, with the exception of classic cars.

“Well when we chose the theme, we were thinking about the fact that there are a lot of important kind of things around the copper country, around the Keweenaw, so we picked Keweenaw Treasures, and what we were thinking in the line of was you know, we’ve got the Quincy Mine, we’ve got the Calumet Theater, we’ve got skiing you know Mont Ripley, we got waterfalls in the area. All these different things that would give people a reason to come here to look around.” – David Crowley, Parade Chairman of Bridgefest

Bridgefest is more than a parade, and there a a host of events throughout the weekend.

“They’re bringing back some activities, and they’re also adding some events and activities. We are going to continue with the Touch-A-Truck event and the Keweenaw Classic Car Show, that’ll be at the SDC on Michigan Tech campus. They are bringing a Shine Fitness workout and program down to Bridgefest on Saturday, and the new exciting thing this year is the Dunk Tank. They are providing a dunk tank on Saturday from noon until 6, where those proceeds will go towards a local charity. But yeah, [I’m] excited to see who gets on that dunk tank chair.” – Katie Schlief, Bridgefest Coordinator

Bridgefest starts on June 15th. Find more information on their website here.
