Bricks being replaced on Shelden Avenue

Crews will be on Shelden Avenue in Houghton replacing selected bricks that are beginning to deteriorate on the downtown stretch. Manager Eric Waara says it is the first time maintenance work has been done since the business district was resurfaced in 2009.

The work will be done when weather allows for the next several weeks, only at times of the day where it makes sense.

They tend to stay off of it during the really busy hours, and they’re certainly off of the road before the afternoon rush hour, and try to avoid lunch time.

Waara says the brick restoration was planned for earlier in the year, but got deferred due to the amount of construction happening in the area, and the backups that were a staple of summer commutes.
