Boundary Road Trails Encourages Getting Outdoors with Furry Friends

Just south of Houghton, along Boundary Road, lies the Boundary Road Trails. The small trail network offers year-round access and encourages residents to get outdoors with their furry friends. Since taking over maintenance at the location a few years ago, Trail Maintenance Coordinator Arlyn Aronson, says that he works on the trails each day. And while he does enjoy the time outdoors, he says he needs more help.

“So because of limited dog access around Houghton and south of there, we decided we’ll give it a try. And we were kind of pleasantly surprised by the amount that was showing up. And after that, we thought, we’re going to need to get some funding to help us continue this.” Arlyn Aronson, Trial Maintenance Coordinator, Boundary Road Trails

Since the Boundary Road Trails opened to the public they have become very popular for people taking their dogs for a hike, during the summer and even winter months. Aronson hopes to find ready and willing volunteers to help with some potential grant writing, that will seek trail improvements. As well as volunteers willing to help maintain trail conditions for visitors. Aronson says that the trails do accept donations from trail users and supporters which helps maintain maintenance equipment signage and more.
