High winds kicked up some waves in Copper Harbor Sunday evening capsizing a catamaran. The 18-foot vessel had two people on board, and they clung to the underside of the boat until Keweenaw County Sheriff’s personnel were able to get out to the scene.
The deputies used a rescue boat from nearby Fort Wilkins, one that they had been trained on for incidents like this, to reach the people and pull them from the water safely. The catamaran was also righted and towed back to shore. No injuries were sustained.
