Blooming into Fruition- From the Ground Farmers Markets to Start In Two Weeks

Memorial Day weekend hosted a variety of events, one of which being the first ever From the Ground Farmers Market Festival.

Live music, a small petting zoo, and stalls selling plants and artisan goods lined the waterfront, celebrating the start of summer with a preview of what will be available at the upcoming From the Ground Farmers Markets.

“We will have 3 locations at Houghton, Calumet, and Hancock. Calumet will be on Saturday’s from 10 to 2, Hancock will be on Thursdays from 3 to 6 as well. You can expect farmers with good, tasty, fresh produce, artists with amazing art, and producers bringing in honey, maple syrup, bread jam… everything that’s good in the Keweenaw is going to be at these markets.” – Rachael Pressley, Co-Founder and Board Secretary for From The Ground Farmers Market Collective

The From the Ground Farmers Market Collective also accepts a variety of food access programs.

“We have over 8 programs at our farmers markets, including SNAP and EBT, and Double Up [Food Bucks]. We also have Senior Project FRESH, WIC Project FRESH, we have two Prescription for Health Programs run by the UP Food Is Medicine crew and Aspirus, and then we have two local programs- the Library Marketbox and HuskyFAN, the Michigan Tech Food Access Network.

The Calumet Farmers Market will be at the pocket park next to the Calumet Theater on Saturdays from 10a.m-2p.m with flex hours from 2-3p.m. It will start June 17.

The Hancock Tori Farmers Market will be on Thursdays from 3-6p.m at Quincy Green | Hirvonen Hall starting June 15.
