BKG Shelter Home Returns to the Agassiz House for an Evening at the Inn

The Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter home for many years operated out of the former home of Calumet Hecla Mining Manager Alexander Agassiz. The domestic violence shelter has since moved away to a new facility still in the area. However, the non-profit’s leadership was very happy to see their former home re-enter the community as the recently opened Agassiz House Inn.

“You know, when we were in it as the shelter, people who needed our services were the ones who came in. And not so much the general public. Just to walk through it, it’s a beautiful place to stay or rent for a wedding, or whatever. But our connection with them has been really good. I’ve been enjoying getting to know them, and seeing what they’ve done to the former shelter.” Mary Neimala, Executive Director, Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home

Tonight the Agassiz House Inn and the Barbara Kettle Gundlach shelter home will host an evening at the inn. The community event will celebrate fall, and raise awareness for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. While at the event attendees can enjoy appetizers, Horse drawn wagon rides (weather permitting), and a silent auction. Those attending are encouraged to provide a small donation to help support the BKG Shelter Home.
