Big Plans Will Bring New Events to Pasty Fest this Weekend

With less than three days away, pasty fest will draw thousands of locals and visitors to 5th street in calumet. The annual festival celebrating the Upper Peninsula’s signature dish is excited to bring this year the pasty fest Olympics. Pitting individuals and teams against each other for bragging rights as the top pasty eater, puller, and roller. The festival will of course include the crowd favorite event, the pasty eating competition. But will introduce two new events including the pasty pull, a sort of strong man competition…

“And then at two o’clock will be our Strong Man Pasty Pull. And so you’re not pulling pastys, you’re pulling a truck. But, who can go one hundred feet the fastest. So first year for that event. We have a lot of interest, I think it’s going to be really fun. And we do have one person who plans to compete in both the Pasty Pull, and the Pasty Eating Competition.” – Leah Polzin, Executive Director, Main Street Calumet

And a pasty making relay race. Which is sure to include plenty of laughs from those in attendance, as competitors use non traditional kitchen utensils to bake a pasty.

“We’ll open up right at noon. Then at 1 pm we have our Pasty Relay Race, one of our first events of the day. That is teams of four competing to make pastys with all of the wrong kitchen tools. You don’t need a rolling pin to roll that dough, you need a foam roller!” – Leah Polzin, Executive Director, Main Street Calumet

Past fest will have plenty of fun for friends, parents, kids, and families. Organizers of the event ask that those interested in signing for a pasty fest Olympic event, please preregister online.
