The Michigan Department of Natural Resources posted results for two fall hunting seasons, while opening up a third lottery period stretching into early August. Their Youtube page explains how the bear draw and elk weighted lottery systems work. While elk are not found in the Copper Country, bears certainly are and the DNR issued over 7,000 permits for the 2021 season statewide.
The turkey lottery is open, stretching until August 1st. It costs five dollars to submit an application. Only one is allowed per hunter and if you are successful in getting a license, the season begins in September. Partnership applications are allowed up to two people. If a child obtains their license through the Mentored Youth Hunting Program, they automatically qualify for a turkey license.
Turkey season restricts the equipment that can be used. A bow and arrow, crossbow, fixed shotgun shell, or muzzleloading shotgun are the only permitted weapons for the hunt. Draw results will be made public on August 16th.
