25-year-old Kyle Ross Moilanen of Baraga has been arrested as a result of an investigation by the Michigan State Police’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. He was arraigned on Friday, July 2nd in 97th District Court for one charge of aggravated possession of child sexually-abusive material.
As defined in MCL 750.145c, knowingly allowing a child to engage in a sexual act to create pornography, whether kept to yourself or sold or distributed to others, is a felony and carries with it a potential 20-year prison sentence. Aggravated possession means that a child who has not reached puberty is involved, the material contains sadistic acts, or there are at least 100 images involved. That has a separate penalty of up to 10 years.
Investigators raided Moilanen’s home in the Village of Baraga and found evidence on multiple devices. Police were alerted to the situation thanks to a National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) cyber tip.
