Baraga County Sheriff’s Office applauds alert business owner

Baraga County Sheriff Joe Brogan took to Facebook Tuesday morning to celebrate the actions of a local business owner. She noticed a customer acting in a suspicious manner. It turns out the woman, who lives in the area, had been duped into believing she owed money to scammers posing as the Geek Squad. The criminals had claimed that they had performed a variety of services, without the woman asking for the assistance, and deserved compensation.

Brogan said the simple concept of “see something, say something” is still applicable today. Deputy Rachel Rose says this is the first example of this particular scam the office is aware of.

We haven’t seen any other complaints, it was just one. We wanted the community to be aware of it.

Scams tend to pick up during the holiday season.
