Baraga County Chamber of Commerce announces Dynamo Grant recipients

The Baraga County Chamber of Commerce announces three recipients of the Dynamo Grant program. On Wednesday the Baraga County Chamber of Commerce announced three businesses will receive 5,000 dollar grants. The program aims to attract new businesses and assist young business owners in the county. The Dynamo Grant committee received 15 applications from different start-ups and businesses created in the past year. The Dynamo Grant program will support Jenna Ballor and the Tot Spot Childcare, Delicata, owned by Meghan O’Connell, and Cody Smith’s Keweenaw Custom Rods.

Ballor’s Tot Spot Childcare in-home daycare service currently serves 6 kids in Baraga. With the Dynamo Grant funds, she will be able to purchase a fence and outdoor play equipment, improving children’s experiences while at daycare. The grant will also help the center double in size over the two years.

Meghan O’Connell says the quick-service food retail establishment will use the grant funds to expand its grocery inventory, and seating options, and add staff. She adds that Delicata looks forward to continuing service for several small family businesses in the area in 2025 with support from the program.

Cody Smith’s Keweenaw Custom Rods has caught on in the custom fishing rod industry. He plans to upgrade his equipment, inventory, and production process to expand further.
