Aspirus Health hosts child vaccination clinic today in Laurium

The start of the school year can be the start of a new flu season. Around the start of school medical professionals suggest parents ensure their child’s immunizations are current. The fall is a great time to update vaccination shots says Aspirus Keweenaw Pediatric Doctor James Black, because parents are typically checking other items off the list for their child.

He adds that there are several illnesses professionals have an eye on, including influenza, COVID-19, and measles.

There was a big outbreak in the Chicago area that’s last year. We’re worried that with the increased rate of unvaccinated children in our population, we may be reaching a so-called critical mass of children that this disease could spread, says Dr. James Black. And we may this year or in future year see a local outbreak of measles. That has us fairly worried because measles is a pretty dangerous disease.

Doctor Black says that child vaccination clinics should try to make children comfortable while receiving a shot, so they better understand the importance of keeping up with your health. Tomorrow aspires Keweenaw will host the children’s vaccination clinic on the second floor of the Aspirus Laurium Clinic from noon until 6 pm. Parents are encouraged to set up an appointment for their child. Those interested in learning more about the vaccination clinic with Aspirus Health can find more details below.
