Armed robbery in Laurium

Just after 4:15 Wednesday morning, Laurium Police received an emergency call from a man whose home had been broken into. He had woken up to a gun pointed at his head. The man holding the weapon is believed to have known the homeowner. The robber was demanding the two cats that live at the residence. He took one before leaving.

The robber was located by police a short time later. The gun was seized during the arrest and he has been booked at the Houghton County jail for home invasion and felonious assault.

The incident is still under investigation and Laurium Police have refused further comment until it concludes. No identities have been released. They were assisted by the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office, Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, and Hancock City Police.
