Starting on January 3rd, Houghton-Portage Township Schools will have a new superintendent. Anders Hill was tapped by the district’s Board of Education in November, and he officially accepted the position earlier this week. Hill is faced with the prospect of beginning his tenure in the middle of the school year, and he thinks there is a good case to be made that might be the best scenario.
Hill speaks glowingly of the teachers, staff, and the supportive board itself. He is being elevated from elementary school principal, and has served on the high school’s varsity football coaching staff. That gives him a look at the full range of students he will be overseeing. Hill says the administrative staff of the district work closely, which also helps give him a good sense of the issues needing to be addressed.
He says it is humbling to know that so many colleagues and peers endorsed him during the application process.
