Six months later Ahmeek has raised enough funds to support replacing the community ice rink boards. In December last year residents of Ahmeek, concerned about the weathering condition of the Ahmeek Ice Rink, organized a fundraising campaign with help from the Keweenaw Community Foundation. The project set a goal to raise 100,000 dollars to replace the board sheeting and other rink safety upgrades.
The project’s funds were donated by a total of 110 individuals from the community, hockey enthusiasts, local businesses, nonprofits, and charitable foundations. This evening the Keweenaw Community Foundation has invited the community to show its support for the project during a special check presentation at the Ahmeek Ice Rink starting at 5:30 pm.
