Ahmeek Fire Department using GoFundMe to help pay for new truck

After a grant from the United States Department of Homeland Security, the Ahmeek Fire Department remains $45,000 short of what is necessary to purchase a new rescue truck with equipment attached. The current one is nearly 40 years old, a 1985 model, and the department says it is a nightmare to fix. Captain Michael Defina adds that the vehicle is unsafe for those operating it.

The department’s budget is small, essentially what fundraising from its members brings in. There is no tax levy assessed on its behalf. Defina says if contributions fall short of the goal, members will be exposed to personal liability to make the purchase happen.

If we’re unable to raise this money, we’ll have to take out a loan and put up our own personal collateral, because we have no funding stream. We receive no tax millage.
